In what must be the ultimate coup for the New Zealand breeding industry Gary & Mark Chittick whom own the famous WAIKATO STUD at Matamata swooped late in negotiations to purchase SAVABEEL thus securing the handsome and strong colt for their world renowned property against a hot field of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading nursery’s.
Not content with running a close second, the Chittick’s secured the colt at an eleventh hour bid ensuring the colt’s return to NZ and in doing so, allowed both sides of the Tasman to have the opportunity to enjoy watching Savabeel’s future progeny gallop to stardom.
The deal stuck valued the SAVABEEL at around $10 million which set a new record for a NZ based sire.
SAVABEEL will stand at $35,000 NZD + GST on a LFG.
50 shares were available at $185,000 AUD + GST and they were sold in 48 hours. Leading players in the breeding industry scrambled to ensure they secured a share in SAVABEEL. The attraction to the shares was generated by the fact that each shareholder received a bonus breeding right every year for the life of the stallion. This made it an extremely attractive offer when considering the shares also attract their dividends each season as well.
His book has been limited by Waikato Stud to 140 mares in his first season.
Waikato Stud has been inundated with requests for booking forms to secure a nomination to the highly prized and marketable stallion. The application list reads as a “Who’s Who?of the top broodmares in both New Zealand and Australia.
Savabeel has plenty going for him in his new career, not the least factor being his sire Zabeel, the New Zealand breeding industry’s biggest international calling card. The twice Australian and four-time Champion New Zealand stallion, Zabeel boasts 32 individual Group One winners including Australian Horses of the Year Octagonal and Might And Power along with seven Derby winners in South Africa as well as through Australia and New Zealand.
Savannah Success, dam of Savabeel, won the New Zealand Oaks and collected the prestigious NZB Filly of the Year title in New Zealand before adding a second Group One to her record, this over 1600m in the Ansett Stakes in Sydney. With seven of her eight wins in Stakes or Group races, Savannah Success is a further positive in the pedigree and armory of Waikato Stud’s latest recruit.
“Savabeel is a horse with appeal and reach well beyond the local industry alone,?Mark Chittick believes. “His performance in winning the only World Series race in the Southern Hemisphere as a 3yo will appeal to buyers of his progeny, as will his very international pedigree. He was precocious, he was very competitive and he proved himself world class. On top of all this, he is a magnificent looking horse.?
