DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS
NEWSLETTER
Time fly's when you're having fun !
It's been 3 months since our last newsletter and what an eventful period it has been. Since the end of January there have been several significant developments and newsworthy items which have kept us very busy.
In this issue of our newsletter we have the following stories and summaries:
RACING HIGHLIGHTS : Dynamic Syndications 2yo "REWARD FOR EFFORT" won both the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes 1200m at Caulfield as well as winning the Blue Diamond Preview 1000m LR at Caulfield.
HIGH PROFILE PURCHASE : Dynamic Syndications is delighted to confirm that we purchased the highest priced yearling at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale when we secured Lot 231 a colt by Encosta De Lago ex Show Dancing for $1.8 million. He is the 1/2 brother to AL MAHER and SALAMEH and the 3/4 brother - in blood - to MANHATTAN RAIN.
AT THE SALES : We have also been active at the yearling sales. Since the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast in January, we attended and purchased yearlings at the: Inglis Classic - Sydney, Inglis Premier - Melbourne and Inglis Australian Easter Yearling - Sydney. Overall we have secured 11 of the highest quality yearlings and we are thrilled to advise that we have sold out of 9 yearlings and are in the process of completing our final two offers.
RACETRACK RESULTS : In the past 12 weeks since our last newsletter, Dynamic Syndications horses have "Weighed-In" on 32 occasions. We have had 5 individual winners and in this period our horses have won $823,675 in prizemoney.
AUTUMN CARNIVAL TIME IN SYDNEY : The Autumn Racing Carnival is a busy time of year and industry participants and racing enthusiasts need to have exceptional staying powers to last the distance at all the racing and social functions.
BUSINESS REPORT: In February, Dynamic Syndications Managing Director Dean Watt purchased from his fellow business partner David Reid (representing the Estate of the Late Bruce Reid) their equity in the business Dynamic Syndications.
GENETIC RATINGS SCORES : Further proof of the valuable assistance Genetic Rating Scores offer in yearling selections was highlighted when REWARD FOR EFFORT won the Blue Diamond. With a Rating Score of A+ 1,175% he was yet another Stakes Winner added to support our theories. A valuable snapshot of Group 1 winners in 2008 revealed some significant findings. These are worthy of review.
OWNERS PROFILE : We are delighted to introduce George Rassos. George is riding a wave of success over the past few months. He is the owner of three Dynamic Syndications horses currently racing and each has won in town!
TRAINERS HIGHLIGHTS : Dynamic's stable of trainers all performed well over the Sydney Carnival and have added nice Black Type to their various horse's pedigree pages. We have a snapshot review their success.
DYNAMIC HORSES STATUS REPORT : Follow our horses in training and black book those getting ready to trial. Find out where each of our horses is currently situated.
Lot 29 at the 2008 William Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sales had a lot going for him. A particularly nice looking individual with excellent conformation and a pedigree rating score of A+ 1,175% to match, the son of Exceed and Excel from Miss Prospect ticked all our boxes.
After being passed as sound and clean on x-rays by our vet Dr. Tim Roberts, the colt was valued by Dynamic Syndications Managing Director Dean Watt at $250,000.
Being a VOBIS qualified colt, the horse was always going to be trained in Victoria. Peter Moody is a valuable member of the Dynamic Syndications team and after pre-sale discussions we decided if we could buy the colt for less than our valuation we would grab him and Peter would be the trainer. The rest is history. Dean Watt purchased the colt on behalf of his company Dynamic Syndications. We sold half to Dynamic clients and Peter Moody's clients grabbed half as well.
Early indications from the breakers were encouraging but the writing was on the wall when the colt trialled so impressively leading into the Blue Diamond Preview. Over the 1000m, the colt dominated the race winning with ease and adding valuable Black Type to his pedigree page. Peter Moody then advised the owners he would target the Blue Diamond with the colt but needed to be kind on him leading into the second up race being the 1100m Blue Diamond Prelude. Reward For Effort had an easy time of it after the 1000m race and was left soft to bring him to a peak for the Group 1 1200m race. Also, Peter also knew from private trackwork that the colt would improve significantly with the adaptation of a set of winkers.
These were deliberately left off into the Prelude because Peter wanted to gain full effect from the gear change on Grand Final Day.
With the track being "off" that day close to the fence, Reward For Effort lead them up for the turn but was underdone and without the winkers rolled back to the fence into the softer going. Real Saga beat him home down the centre of the track whilst we stuck in the soft ground up against the paint. We could not have been any happier with our horse. We knew what we had up our sleeves.
The lead up to the Blue Diamond was superb and the colt rallied accordingly. His trackwork on the Tuesday was first class and we believed it would be a major miscarriage of justice if he was to be beaten.
When barrier draw came out we devised a simple battle plan. We would go forward and make a race of it early putting the others under pressure. We felt that we had Rostova's measure on times and weights and we aslo felt Real Saga didn't have the necessary early gate speed and would get too far back in the run. History shows we were right. Reward For Effort peeled off 34.5 secs for the first 600m and was able to kick off the front. That broke the heart of those chasing and whilst we anticipated that Real Saga would have a soft time early and get home hard, we felt he would get too far back to catch us. Tactically it was correct thinking and the result came our way with a 1.5 length victory.
We then launched an attack on the Golden Slipper. However the fickle Sydney weather washed away our hopes. Being out of a Rory's Jester mare, a breed known for their absolute dislike of wet ground, the heavy rain leading into the race resulted in a Heavy 9 track. Reward For Effort was gallant. He hit the front at the 300m but was simply bogged down in the mud and didn't want to stretch out.
Off to the paddock for a well deserved spell, having raced on 4 occasions for a Group 1 Win and a Listed Win and a second in a Group 3 with $764,000 in the bank. Residual value on the colt is now $5 million for Stud Duties upon racetrack retirement because he is a Group 1 winning 2yo.
HIGH PROFILE PURCHASE
Do your homework and get the results. Dynamic Syndications topped the Australian Easter Yearling Sale when, on behalf of a client, we paid $1.8 million for a superb colt by Encosta De Lago ex Show Dancing who is the 3/4 brother-in-blood to MANHATTAN RAIN. By then however, MANHATTAN RAIN had already shown he was an above average galloper when two days earlier he had been placed in the Golden Slipper. He confirmed his pedigree when subsequently and convincingly winning the Group 1 AJC Sires Produce.
This is another Group 1 success for the best family in the Australian Stud Book.
Quoted around in the press at worth more than $15 million the fact is simple - studs would have to top up well over that figure to secure him.
Importantly for Dynamic Syndications, MANHATTAN RAIN is the 3/4 brother-in-blood to the colt we purchased. Both colts are by ENCOSTA DE LAGO whilst their dams SHOW DANCING (by Don't Say Halo) and SHANTHA'S CHOICE (by Canny Lad) are 1/2 sisters both being out of the mare DANCING SHOW (by Nijinsky)
Under our Genetic Rating Scores, the colt we purchased has a rating of A+ 1,147% based upon the Fairy King over Don't Say Halo broodmare cross whilst MANHATTAN RAIN has a Genetic Rating Score of A++ 4,440 % based upon the Encosta De Lago over Canny Lad broodmares cross.
Here is another example of the old proverb ringing true :
"The apple doesn't roll far from the tree".
This pedigree is thoroughbred royalty, the absolute "BLUE BLOOD" of the racing industry.
Both these colts share the same second dam DANCING SHOW. She has produced 8 foals to race 7 winners:
UMATILLA - Group 1 2yo Winner
HURRICANE SKY - Group 1 2yo Winner
MAKAROVA - Stakes placed
TWYLA - Winner & dam of
MURJANA - Gr3 Winner
SHANTHA'S CHOICE - Winner dam of :
REDOUTE'S CHOICE - Group 1 2yo Winner
PLATINUM SCISSORS - Group 1 Winner
SLIDING CUBE - Group 3 Winner
MANHATTAN RAIN - Group 1 2yo Winner
SHOW DANCING - Winner & dam of :
AL MAHER - Group 1 Winner
SALAMEH - Group 3 Winner
(SALAMEH'S foal by REDOUTES CHOICE topped the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2008 at $2.7m purchased by Darley.
DANCING SHOW is also a 3/4 sister to the dams of Stakes Winners:
DR JOHNSON
YAGLI
DANCING SHOW is also a 1/2 sister t
GREAT REGENT - Stakes Winner
DIAMOND SLY - Stakes Placed
LADIES DAY - Dam of Dual Group 1 Winner
HE'S NO PIE EATER - (A Dynamic Syndications purchase)
Our purchase of LOT 231 Encosta De Lago ex Show Dancing looks exceptionally good buying as this family continues to deliver Black Type success.

BUSINESS REPORT
Dean Watt, Managing Director of Minnamurra Racing Services Pty Limited trading as Dynamic Syndications, announced that effective as of Friday 20 February 2009, his associated company Dean Watt Thoroughbreds Pty Limited (ABN 64 134 481 539), purchased from Minnamurra Racing Services Pty Limited, the trading name DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS and the Administration Management and Racehorse Syndication Business.
The restructure results from the decision of the Executors of the Estate of the late Bruce Reid, to conclude the Estate's involvement in the business of racehorse syndication having completed the commitment given by Bruce Reid through his Estate, to support Dynamic Syndications for a minimum of the first 3 years after his passing.
Dean Watt acknowledges his gratitude to Bruce Reid for the foresight, wisdom and contribution Bruce gave in the initial establishment of the business partnership between them.
Dean Watt also acknowledges David Reid and the fellow Executors of the Estate, for their continued support and guidance over almost 4 years, thus ensuring the successful and rapid growth of the company under the Dynamic Syndications trade name to become Australia's largest and most successful racehorse syndication company and one of the highest recognised brand names within the Australian thoroughbred industry.
From our clients perspective and the thoroughbred industry perspective, Dynamic Syndications transfer of the trading name between corporate entities was a seamless process and has no impact upon our clients or upon the ongoing management and trading of horses. Our attention to detail and customer service remains constant.
Dynamic Syndications also moved business premises during this time and are now located at Suite 13 / 3 Richmond Ave SYLVANIA WATERS. Our main telephone number changed to 02 9522 7688 whilst our fax became 02 9522 7644. Our email addresses and our freecall number 1800 61 99 99 remained constant.
GENETIC RATINGS SCORES :
Having worked in the thoroughbred industry since 1983 and having been a registered and licenced thoroughbred consultant since 1986, Dean Watt, Managing Director of Dynamic Syndications, has been able to review many years of data research and practical hands on knowledge which are used diligently within the business at Dynamic Syndications. This gives us what we consider is a significant "unfair advantage" over our peers. Add in the fact Dean has successfully held a Racehorse Trainers Licence and has a tertiary qualification in Horse Husbandry and Management, Dynamic Syndications uses to great effect these advantages to bring in the full range of experiences to assist us in achieving our goals of buying quality thoroughbreds that can achieve high standards on the racetrack.
One of the tools we believe in is the use of a Genetic Rating Score for the parentage of each individual yearling.
Proof of the valuable assistance Genetic Rating Scores offer in yearling selections was highlighted when REWARD FOR EFFORT won this year's Blue Diamond. With a Rating Score of A+ 1,175% he was yet another Stakes Winner added to the list that supports our theories.
A valuable snapshot of Group 1 winners in 2008 revealed some significant findings. Dynamic Syndications have long held the set theories relating to quality equine athletes and their racetrack success related to the genetic foundation of their pedigree. For some years we have been stating that there is statistical data supporting the facts that a majority of high quality racehorses come from a limited range of matings.
A review of the 2008 Calendar results reveals some very interesting data both in Australia and Internationally.
We use a software formula that rates pedigrees into both an alphabetical score (similar to a school report card) as well as a percentage score. Our scoring system refers to an average result is a ranking "C" whilst an average percentage is a variant of 0 - 15%.
The fact is, at Dynamic Syndications we do not wish to be involved with "average' horses. We leave those pedigrees to those who wish to shop in that range. We are searching for the grade that genetically score as high as possible.
We have always stated that we believe that buying pedigrees that have the genetic mating of B+ and above gives the buyer a greater chance of racetrack success. Specifically want to shop in the A, A+ and A+ + range.
A review of the data from 2008 compared to our software database reveals the following

OWNERS PROFILE : "LUCKY" GEORGE RASSOS
Racing people understand the term LUCK ! It's all around us and infiltrates our every waking moment. We all need LUCK in racing to give us an even chance of racetrack success. Some people have 4 leaf clovers, some rub Buddha's belly, others have a rabbit's foot (unlucky for the rabbit!), whilst others have a lucky pair of socks or jocks.
Dynamic Syndications have our own lucky charm.
His name is GEORGE RASSOS !
George (right with sun glasses on head)
George - (4th from left) is holding the sash
George Rassos joined the Dynamic Syndications ownership team as a result of being introduced to us by another lucky owner - Max Whitby.
George owns several food stores including one in the Sydney CBD where Max Whitby would buy his cappuccinos and sandwiches. George and Max had a good customer relationship and George was delighted for Max's success in horses such as Econsul and Savabeel.
Max arranged for Dean Watt to meet George and as a result, George became an owner with Dynamic.
The rest - as the saying goes - is history !
George Rassos had previously dabbled in racehorse ownership on his own account back in 1992. He owned two horses both of these 100%. Unfortunately these were without racetrack success. In fact, neither made it to the races. George became disillusioned. So with his business taking so much of his time, he didn't re-invest. He remained a Saturday punter but gave ownership a miss.
Then, after encouragement from his wife Helen, George was keen to dip his toe back into the water and give racing ownership another try. This time however he started slower taking a 10% share in a horse by Secret Savings / Just Pretty - he races as HANDSOME STASH and has raced 15 times for 3 wins 5 seconds and 2 thirds and was a recent winner at Canterbury.
Then George purchased a 10% share in a filly by Tale of the Cat / Celeste. She races as the very promising JELLYLORUM already a winner and placed at Canterbury from just 3 starts.
George & Helen (4th and 3rd from right) with Jellylorum
Then George purchased a 10% share in an Exceed and Excel / Miss Prospect colt. That is BLUE DIAMOND winner REWARD FOR EFFORT. He has raced on 4 occasions for a Group 1 and Listed Win, second in a Group 3 and won $764,000. Reward For Effort is now valued at $5 million for stud duties upon racetrack retirement
Helen (2nd from Right) & George (beside her right side) at Blue Diamond presentation
Since returning to racing as an owner with Dynamic Syndications, George has raced 3 horses for 3 city winners including a Blue Diamond Winner who is now valued at $5 million.
George owes a lot of his success to his own knowledge of horses and the insistence and support of his wife and business partner Helen.
What's great about their involvement is that it's a hobby that involves the whole family. His daughters Sandy and Ranee are also keen on Dad's passion of thoroughbred racing and enjoy the opportunity to go racing with their parents. The 4 work very hard in the family businesses and see racing as a great leisure time experience.
To have a city winner is every owner's dream - to have 3 horses - 3 to race and 3 city winners is the ultimate. When one of these winners becomes one of Australia's best 2yo colts - That's utopia !
Dynamic Syndications are thrilled to have George, Helen, Sandy and Ranee in our team. We are convinced George is our LUCKY CHARM.
It also proves the saying - The harder you work the luckier you get.
George has just taken a 10% share in our latest colt by Testa Rossa / Rorkes = the 3/4 brother-in-blood to REWARD FOR EFFORT as well as the Flying Spur / Gallant Misss colt. With George's judgement and luck we are now REALLY EXCITED about the future of theses colts.
