The Edwards live in Kempsey in Northern NSW and lived the dream of everybody whom becomes involved with horseracing.
They raced a horse who not only was a champion - she changed their lives.
Dean Watt Recalls:
It only seems like yesterday - The phone rang through to our 1 800 service and Tracey was on the other end of the line. Tracey left her details and I called her back.
Tracey told me "Father's Day is coming up and my husband loves horseracing" she said.
"I would really like the chance to buy him a share in a racehorse but I don't want to spend a fortune and I was just wondering what to do".
I spoke with Tracey at length and sent her a Product Disclosure Statement on 2 yearlings we were syndicating.
The first was a flashy chestnut filly with white blaze and 2 white socks at $6,000 a share. The other was a bay filly - as plain as can be and non-descript at $6,950 a share.
Upon receiving the documents in the post, Tracey called me and said "Listen love, I know the chestnut is really pretty but I want the ugly looking one - the real plain Jane"
"We are only battlers" she said "Mick's a handyman and I work in the council"
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder !
The rest is history. Tracey purchased a share without Michael knowing and duly presented him a gift wrapped share certificate for father's day.
Little did Michael realise what the value of such a thoughtful gift Tracey had purchased would turn out to be worth.
This "plain Jane and ugly" filly that caught Tracey's eye was in fact POLAR SUCCESS - winner of the 2003 Golden Slipper and Riesling Slipper. As a racehorse she won 4 races and $2.2 million.
Upon retirement Polar Success was sold to professional breeders for a huge amount.
Tracey and Michael received back over $300,000 on their $6,950 share outlay. This figure was able to change their lives.
They paid off the mortgage, purchased a new car, and Michael left were he was working and started a new business for himself.
The experience of owning a horse like Polar Success is what all owners aspire to in racing. The emotional high and adrenalin rush can't be described accurately.
The financial returns can be rewarding too !
CONGRATULATIONS to our clients TRACEY AND MICHAEL EDWARDS.
Two of the nicest people in racing you will ever be likely to meet.
